Treatment Options to Get Rid of Severe Acne
Acne is usually divided into mild and severe acne. Blackheads, whiteheads and pustules are some of the mild types of acne, these are also the most common type of acne. Although in this article we are going to focus on one of the sever types of acne, cystic acne.
Because of its severity, cystic acne is the worst form of acne. It is more serious and damaging compared to other forms of acne such as pimples or whiteheads. This is due to the fact that the infection penetrates deeply within the skin layers and can cause very large and painful nodules. Another denomination for this type of acne is acne vulgaris. Acne cysts or acne nodules, are formed when sebum cannot properly outflow to the surface of the skin and causes lesions to the cells lining the walls of the sebum canals. Our body fights the infection producing inflammation of the area where the pores have been blocked. An acne cyst is the consequence of an extreme reaction of the body towards a severe infection.
As these powerful attacks occur, the body produces a substance called sebum. If the flow of sebum exceeds the normal level, bacteria in the follicles and skin surface will produce a larger infection. The area gets so aggravated by the chemicals issued by the breakdown of sebum that the pimple may grow to be as large as five millimeters in diameter due to inflammation and a surplus of bacteria and oil.
Understanding Cystic Acne
Retention keratosis is another factor that can make facial cysts more severe. This happens when the skin cells, particularly those lining the hair follicle are shed improperly. Improper disposal of cells leads to the clogging of these follicles. The bacteria may then pass over to other areas which causes acne cysts to worsen.
Nodulocystic acne may be produced by the action of hormones. The rise of the sebum outflow can be influenced by hormones such as testosterone and androgen. If the sebum ducts are not clear for the outflow to reach the surface of the skin swiftly, they become clogged and cysts are formed. The lifestyle and the genetic background of a person also influence the severity of acne. Even stress can enhance acne problems.
Treating acne cysts is possible despite the fact that they are very serious and the severe acne condition seems beyong the possibilities of products for severe cystic acne treatment. Many dermatologists prescribe a drug called Accutane, and is one taken in the form of a tablet. Its function is to shrink the oil glands which will lower the acne infections. Although this medication has a high rate of success, there are also dangerous risks such as depression. This medication should be taken only if all other methods have been exhausted.
Another option can be provided by a dermatologist and it uses cortisone as the active ingredient. The injections provide instant relief of the area affected, reducing its redness and inflammation. Consequently, the pimple is reduced and thus becomes less visible. There are a few side effects such as temporary whitening of the skin and even indentation around the injection area.
It is complicated to cure cystic acne however there are treatments for it. This type of acne requires a special acne skin care treatment since some could worsen the condition. Cystic acne can also be treated with natural products designed to improve the skin in many ways.
